Looks like we survived the apocalypse on December 21, 2012. Actually, that date simply marked the end of the Mayan long count calendar and the beginning of a new era. It was never a date for an actual end of times “event” as some believed . . .
But what’s that got to do with Chick Lit?
Unless you, like me, woke up the next day feeling grateful to be alive to read yet another awesome book from fiction’s best genre.
I’m starting my year with another read of the classic book that started it all: Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding. Her third book is due out this year with rumors of both a movie and musical. This expected 2013 release of the “third Bridget” is a big deal. More on that in a moment. I don’t plan to read the first book all at once. I plan to read the diary entries as they happen on the actual 2013 calendar, so it’ll take me all year to reach the final entry in the book on December 26. Heck, I’m in no hurry; I already know what happens because I read the book the year it came out.
I’m calling this my “Ode to Bridget Jones” and I’ve established a new category on my blog to collect thoughts and musings as I reread the book credited with starting a new genre of reading and writing, the genre most refer to as – yup, you guessed it – Chick Lit. Read along with me. Let’s chat.Follow @Julie_Valerie
